Dr. Boyan Georgiev was born and raised in Sofia, Bulgaria. His father was an opthalmologist who travelled to many underserved areas in North Africa as part of a Bulgarian government program, affording Dr. Georgiev the opportunity to study in French schools throughout the continent.
Upon graduation from the Medical Academy of Sofia in 1985, Dr. Georgiev performed two years of mandatory military service as a sports medicine physician in the Central Sport Club of the Army-CSKA. During this time, Dr. Georgiev met and married his wife, Irina. As part of his obligation for repayment for school, Dr. Georgiev and his family were posted to an underserved area where he was the only medical provider for three years in a small town of 5,000. During this time, the political unrest in Bulgaria became of increasing concern to the Georgievs. As a result of this oppression, the Georgievs uprooted their one year old daughter, Anastassiya and immigrated first to Italy and then on to Burlington, Vt.
Following his successful completion of the Medical Boards, Dr. Georgiev completed an internship at NYU and a three year (3) residency in Internal Medicine at UMDNJ. Dr. and Mrs. Georgiev moved to Wilmington, NC in 1998 and began a career in Internal Medicine and Primary Care. He established Carolina Prime Internal Medicine in 2001. Dr. Georgiev loves providing preventive care and helping patients manage their conditions.
Dr. Georgiev and Irina have been married for twenty-nine years and share two children, Anastassiya and George. The Georgievs love to travel and explore new places. When he is not busy caring for patients, Dr. Georgiev like to read and listen to his favorite type of music, jazz.
